HMGCC are growing our security research teams. We are giving people interested in computer security the opportunity to work with and be trained by our world class security research experts. We will invest heavily in your career development through technical training programmes, professional accreditation, mentoring and on the job training. There will also be opportunities to travel abroad.

Our security research team's work is varied and challenging. We 'Red Team' the diverse range of products that HMGCC provides the British Government - finding vulnerabilities in our software and hardware and securing them before they can be exploited. Projects range from short term security assessments to long term in-depth analysis of multi-facet systems. We secure a wide variety of technologies and therefore need versatile and passionate people to tackle new problems as technologies continue to advance.


Technical Skills

We would need you to already have:

• An ability to develop Software in one or more languages.
• An understanding of common vulnerabilities/weaknesses e.g. CWE-120 (Buffer Overflow), CWE-190 (Integer Overflow).
• An ability to debug an application to explore a vulnerability.
• A limited ability or have an awareness of reverse engineering.
• For Graduate: A Bachelors/Master's degree in relevant discipline.
• For Junior: Practical development or computer security experience from within industrial, commercial, hobbyist or academic sectors.

Putting Your Skills To Use

Using your expertise as part of our team you will:

• Put your skills to use in a research team of people with a range of backgrounds and skillsets.
• You will examine and experiment with HMGCC products to identify weaknesses and vulnerabilities,
• You will demonstrate problems (typically with a proof of concept) and work with our development teams to fix any identified security flaws.
 
You will play an integral part in ensuring that our Government's communication systems in the UK and around the globe are reliable and totally secure.
