HMGCC has a unique and exciting opportunity for a Product Quality Engineer to join our growing team. Here you will have the opportunity to be creative, working with product development, our cutting edge manufacturing teams and end users to deliver products that meet our customers' exacting requirements.

You will need experience in product reliability, a good understanding of product compliance and the ability to apply your knowledge across the product lifecycle.

Typical day-to-day tasks include:

• Supporting product development engineers to design-in the required reliability and identify appropriate compliance standards
• Working with test engineers to define appropriate test plans and ensure reliability test methods and processes meet industry standards
• Leading on the analysis of product defects and identification of root cause
• Optimising and defining company-wide reliability and compliance processes

As well as structured work packages, we also encourage our staff to think on their feet and spend time in the business to identify local issues that we can help resolve or identify bigger issues that impact the wider community. Conversely to also identify and spread best practice.


Technical Skills

We would need you to already have experience in the following:

• Product reliability planning and delivery
• Product defect analysis, root cause analysis and corrective action delivery
• Analysis techniques and tools e.g. FMEA, FTA, Six Sigma
• Use of Microsoft suite, specifically Visio and Excel
• Technical writing and good verbal communication skills
• The application of engineering standards {MIL-STD, Def Stan, BS/ISO/IEC) to product design and manufacture

To strengthen your application, it would be desirable if you have experience in the following:

• Managing or running failure reporting and corrective action systems
• Definition of test plans to support product development and product management throughout its lifecycle
• Implementing and interpreting British and International Standards
• Physics of failure

To work as a Product Quality Engineer, you will be the type of person who:
 
• Can establish goals, develop plans and milestones and evaluate your progress against them. Has the ability to set clear defined, realistic objectives and deadlines. Monitoring their own progress against controls and milestones while maintaining a constant awareness of issues helping or hindering progress and taking appropriate action.
• Will be able to identify opportunities to improve processes, analyse the information, manage risk and make decisions. You'll have the ability to balance the need for pace with
rigorous evidence based analysis, and develop a robust understanding that is backed up with evidence.
• Can express information clearly, listen, ask questions and check understanding. You would be expected to chair meetings with stakeholders and facilitate agreements. Using stakeholder analysis and building relationships with internal customers so you can anticipate reactions and provide a response that addresses concerns.
• Has the ability to build a good rapport with stakeholders as we recognise that this is critical to the success of any change. A successful candidate would be able to create a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable to provide their input without prejudice.
• As an advocate of change, you will be expected to encourage and support others to be involved in change and looking for opportunities to learn and improve, including learning from mistakes. Encourage and enable others to share ideas, to suggest changes and to make improvements.

Putting Your Skills To Use

Using your expertise as part of our team you will:

• Lead the development of reliability processes, procedures, guidance, forms, and associated systems that define how the identified engineering activities will be performed throughout the products' lifecycle. Ensure compliance with adopted best practice, British and international standards.
• Communicate all aspects of product reliability to people who will use the information using techniques that are appropriate to both the intended audience and content.
• Analyse data from the 'Data Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System' to identify trends and determine corrective actions to address issues. Working within the team to map, manage and create board level reporting to support business management activities.
