HMGCC has a unique and exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our growing team. Here you will have the opportunity to be creative, working with the latest technology and laboratory equipment.

Working within the Engineering Assurance team, you will have the opportunity to get involved in a diverse range of projects across HMGCC. You’ll use your skills and experience to provide verification that engineers have met policy, process and procedures for cleanroom working and that HMGCC equipment meets the required standards. You will participate in the planning, setting up and undertaking of controlled experiments and trials. You will be responsible for the maintenance of laboratories and equipment. You will have the opportunity to coach less experienced engineers.

Technical Skills

We would need you to already have:


• Laboratory experience – e.g. liquid handling/pipetting, following protocols for collecting, preparing and/or testing samples
• Scientific A-Level or equivalent qualification, and/or equivalent lab experience
• Good communication skills – e.g. writing reports, reviews/summaries or verbal presentations to other staff

To strengthen your application, it would be desirable if you have:

• leanroom/anti-contamination working practices experience
• Knowledge of sterilisation techniques for engineering applications
• PCR and CE experience
• Experience of carrying out risk assessments
• Experience of ordering and maintaining stock and resources
• Evidence of keeping up to date scientific and technical developments
• Evidence of demonstrating procedures/coaching

Using your expertise as part of our team you will:


• Maintain laboratory equipment and the environment, including stock control, routine calibration, cleaning and maintenance
• Collect, prepare and test samples from the laboratories and equipment for monitoring sterility
• Participate in the training to staff on cleanroom working practices
• Support the planning, setting up and undertake controlled experiments and trials
