Antenna Design Engineer Ref. 301

Engineering
£33,126 to £35,420

This is a full-time role but flexible working patterns will be considered

HMGCC has a unique and exciting opportunity for an Antenna Design Engineer to join our growing team. Here you will have the opportunity to be creative, working with the latest technology.

We are looking for a flexible, multi-talented Antenna Designer Engineer with experience of designing, implementing and testing antennas operating from VHF to 20 GHz, supported by our extensive new manufacturing facilities. You will be responsible for the end to end process of implementing your design, culminating in verification using our near and far field test ranges. Our projects range from tactical developments where tight timescales apply, to strategic development programs. No two projects are the same and in all cases you will be producing work of the highest calibre.

The antenna team will give you the opportunity and support to develop your skills and knowledge of design, construction and implementation, which will enable you to progress through and across the organisation. Within the team our key objectives are responsibility and delivery.

Technical Skills

We would need you to already have:

  • Degree level education in RF/Electronic engineering or Physics.
  • Experience of working in an Antenna Design environment.
  • Experience working with a simulation tool (HFSS, FEKO, CST etc...).
  • Understanding of RF propagation

To strengthen your application it would be desirable if you have:

  • Experience in designing electrically small antennas, VHF > 20 GHz.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic theory.
  • Good practical skills for building and testing prototype designs.
  • Experience of near and far field antenna measurements and associated test ranges.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience working across disciplines to prove end to end design to production solutions.

Personal Skills

To work in our challenging and dynamic environment you need to be the type of person who:

  • Is naturally curious, wanting to learn how things fit together and questioning unexpected results
  • Is equally comfortable working in a pressured tactical environment, completing a strategic development or having the opportunity to use your initiative and innovate.
  • Has the confidence to ask questions or seek advice, and is able to clearly explain practical solutions to problems
  • Values the personal satisfaction of knowing that you have made an important contribution to wider organisation's projects
  • Enjoys working with different types of people, and is able to adapt your approach to do the best job possible with them
  • Takes pride in going 'the extra mile', with a willingness to be flexible around the Antenna Departments requirements
  • Is excited by opportunities to learn about, and work with, highly specialist equipment and state of the art facilities

Putting Your Skills to Use

Using your expertise as part of our team you will:

  • Perform work in accordance with HMGCC's engineering policies, processes and procedures.
  • Perform end to end design activities which address the customers' needs.
  • Complete tasks to agreed quality, time and cost objectives.
  • Support other team members at times of high throughput.
  • Be responsible for your continued professional development and aware of the continued development of technology and engineering within the wider antenna world.

You will play an integral part in ensuring that our Government's communication systems in the UK and around the globe are reliable and totally secure. In return we will offer you a positive and creative environment to work in and give you all of the tools and training to develop and be the best that you can be.
