£45,750 - £49,173, with £5,138 per annum skills allowance. This role is available full-time for 37 hours per week or part-time with a minimum coverage of 22 hours. Flexible or compressed working patterns available.

Can you lead a team of project managers, engineers, projects, BAU activities and budgets to deliver in an optimal manner?  Do you want to work somewhere where you can make a difference? You’ll bring your considerable knowledge and experience of portfolio, programme and project management to lead teams to solve unique problems, find innovative solutions and deliver on time. You will use your excellent relationship building skills to liaise with stakeholders, managing their expectations as well as ensuring teams work collaboratively to deliver results. You will work on highly varied portfolios and projects with timescales ranging from a couple of months to a few years, meeting the needs of our government in the UK and around the world.

More About You

To apply for this role, you will already have:

  • In depth experience in using a variety of tools, techniques, methodologies, and best practices, across all stages of project and portfolio management lifecycles.
  • Practical experience of both project and portfolio/programme management.
  • Experience of managing both internal teams and subcontracted work.
  • A track record of leading and mentoring other project managers.

To strengthen your application, it would be beneficial if you also have:  

  • Experience auditing projects or carrying out project assurance reviews.
  • Experience of building high performing agile teams.
  • Experience of change management or the delivery of business change initiatives.
  • A level of professional accreditation and/or membership of a recognised project management body like APM.

Putting your skills to use

Using your diverse range of skills and harnessing the power of your teams, you will:

  • Ensure your portfolio, projects and other pieces of work are well defined, planned and delivered to time cost and quality.
  • Oversea planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting activities; reviewing progress against identified health indicators to spot areas of concern and where possible improve performance.
  • Maintain and enhance good stakeholder relations through effective communications; report progress and issues appropriately and effectively to avoid surprises; ensure teams work in an efficient and co-ordinated manner; build and maintain team motivation and focus and ensure conflict is effectively managed.
  • Lead risk management and project/portfolio assurance activities, managing technical and commercial risks as part of successful delivery; preparing and maintaining portfolio, quality and risk plans.
  • Support the portfolio, programme and project delivery community by identifying improvements to processes and assist in the implementation of these to achieve benefits across all our work.
  • Remain up to date on development in the project delivery profession.
