This position is for 37 hours per week Monday to Friday on a permanent basis.

HMGCC has a unique and exciting opportunity for an Antenna Design Engineer to join our growing team. Here you will have the opportunity to be creative, working with the latest technology and manufacturing processing equipment.

What makes HMGCC different is that you'll have the opportunity to get involved in a diverse range of products designs. You will be turning your concept or idea into a product design creating the necessary build-to-documentation to enable manufacture. You'll use your skill and experience to solve a range of antenna design and RF propagation challenges using state-of-the-art measurement facilities and hardware and software design tools. You'll work with a wide range of engineers and customers in a fast-moving project environment, contributing to unique solutions to demanding problems. Working within an experienced team, we'll give you the opportunity to be creative and decide how you want to get the work done, as long as you can deliver.

Technical Skills

We would need you to already have:

• Degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant science discipline, e.g. RF Communications, Electronics, Mathematics. Alternatively proven relevant experience in, for example, the military, police or other Government organisation.
• An understanding of antennas and propagation, including antenna types and their radiation patterns;conductive and dielectric materials; coaxial cables and connectors and how radio waves propagate at different frequencies in different environments.
• The ability to quickly learn skills in optimising often electrically-small antennas, often deployed in compromised locations.

To strengthen your application it would be desirable if you have:

• Experience with software antenna design tools
• Experience with using network and spectrum analysers
• Experience of conducting measurements in near- and far-field test ranges
• Good skills with hand tools
• Ability to organise and take part in on- and off-site field trials of antenna systems.

Using your expertise as part of our team you will:

• Perform antenna design work in accordance with HMGCC's engineering policies, processes and procedures.
• Design solutions that address our various customers'needs.
• Produce an appropriate level of design documentation, taking into account through-life requirements.
• Develop and maintain antenna design knowledge and skills necessary to be an efficient and effective engineer.
• Complete tasks to agreed quality, time and cost objectives.
• Ensure that managers are informed of progress and immediately communicate risks to quality, schedule or cost.
• Be responsible for your continued professional development.
• Execute an appropriate level of verification and validation to prove designs.
