This role is available full-time for 37 hours per week or part-time with a minimum coverage of 30 hours, Flexible or compressed working patterns available.

Engineer (noun) to design and build.

An opportunity to develop your design engineering skills whilst building bespoke radio communications systems. Building upon your knowledge as a graduate, you will be involved in the complete product lifecycle whilst working as part of a friendly, supportive team of subject matter experts.

You’ll be applying your radio frequency communications and digital signal processing knowledge to unique problem sets that you won’t find anywhere else.

You’ll be joining a well-resourced team of multi-disciplined engineers who design and build advanced communication systems.  Every nut, bolt, circuit and line of code is designed by us.

You can be a part of the design, prototyping and testing of new products – you’ll work alongside experienced design engineers at every step. Your skills will grow through hands-on development work, alongside relevant training courses.

From day 1 you’ll build things that have a direct impact on UK national security.

More About You

To apply for this role, you will already have or be working towards:

•    An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in communications engineering, or equivalent.
•    Degree-level knowledge of RF, electronics or DSP design for communications systems.
•    Experience of using software modelling tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Python or similar).

To strengthen your application, it would be beneficial to demonstrate at least two from:

•    Knowledge of software defined radio and/or FPGA technology.
•    Experience of implementing DSP designs using hardware or embedded platforms.
•    An understanding of RF communications systems.
•    Integration of software or algorithms with embedded platforms.

Knowledge in all these areas is not essential.  Breadth of knowledge will be developed during your career at HMGCC.

Putting your skills to use

Using your diverse range of skills within the Communications Systems Development Group, you will:

•    Contribute to system design and implementation, taking on increasing levels of complexity as your skills grow.
•    Increase your knowledge and skills through a mixture of formal training and hands-on practical experience.
•    Gain experience across the product development lifecycle.
•    Collaborate with other Engineering disciplines to build a product.
•    Devise and execute comprehensive test specifications for complex systems.
•    Become one of the very few, at the heart of national security engineering.
